Being mistakenly put on an
email blacklist
can be a personal annoyance
or can seriously
harm a business.
Like many email providers,
MSN Hotmail uses
a "blacklist" -- a list of Internet
Protocol (IP )
addresses of external email
servers from
which MSN will not accept mail.
This is
designed to shield MSN users
from known
distributors of spam, but it can
occasionally
give a false reading and
prevent innocent
servers from contacting Hotmail
customers. If
your emails are being rejected
from MSN
addresses, Microsoft
recommends using the
Spamhaus website to find out
what blacklists
your IP address is on and
learning whom to
contact to resolve the problem.
Instructions
1
Ascertain the IP address of your
email
server. If you don't know what
the IP is,
go to MXLookup and enter
your server's
domain name to quickly get the
IP.
2
Go to Spamhaus and enter
your server's IP
address. Spamhaus will check
email
blacklists, including the one
used by MSN
Hotmail.
3
Click any links to blacklist
records that
appear, and follow the on-
screen
instructions to learn whom to
contact and
how to have your server
removed from
the list.
